With all of the negativity swirling around sports today with steroids, drunk driving, dog fighting, and everything else that clutters ESPN its good to hear some good news for a change. Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer is hoping to return to the team for the 2010 season.
Herzlich will finish his radiation treatments this week and has 5 more chemotherapy appointments. With all of this going on he has returned to classes and has a very positive outlook on the future of his condition. (From ESPN.com) "Things are going really well," Herzlich said Wednesday. "The goal right now is to get rid of the tumor completely and to be healthy. That's the goal right now and they're encouraged that's what's going to happen."
The 6'4" 238 pound linebacker led the Eagles in tackles last season and hopes to continue his career into the NFL. It is really great to hear a story like this. During his treatments there was very little heard about his condition in the media but now things really appear to be heading in the right direction. Good for him and best of luck.
